Maybe you caught this yesterday, maybe you didn’t, but either way, let us apprise you of this new campaign called “Bing It On” from CP+B. As you can guess, the Boulder bunch are touting the prowess of Microsoft’s search engine. How? Well, with a “side-by-side search off” against the almighty Google, of course. The formidable challenge consists of a five-round search battle between the two engines and is aimed at proving Bing’s boasts that people chose its web search results over Google nearly 2:1 in blind comparison tests. Of course, there are exceptions to this study, especially this one tipster below who weighs in with his/her own review. Keep in mind, though, that most people are probably just more accustomed to the interface of Google web search than Bing’s.
“Crispin’s new ‘bring it on” side by side search off would be a brilliant campaign, except Google wins every time I try it. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever consider using Bing again. Even when Bing does win, the results are so remarkably similar, I see no [reason whatsoever to switch] to Bing. This may have been one of the worst ideas ever – it’s like trying to convince consumers to buy faucets that turn the opposite direction. Yeah, it’s a nice change of pace to turn the [spigot] to the right instead of left when you want to draw a bath – but it’s the same fucking water – so why change? I’m not being snarky or anti-CPB, but all this campaign will do is remind people there’s really no reason not to use Google.”Advertisement
To be fair, though, we gave it a whirl and just threw out random search topics. Here was our result:
