Couple Uses Wedding to Promote Peta, Denounce Horse-Drawn Carriages

By Matt Van Hoven

The headline basically tells the entire story, but here’s the details. Kelly Respess and Paul Kercheval got married recently. Yay! The couple used the day as an opportunity to send a message: they believe it’s cruel for horses to be used to pull carriages.

Said wifey:

“Knowing that someday soon horse-drawn carriages in New York will be a thing of the past would be the most wonderful wedding present I can imagine. We’re asking other couples who are getting married to steer clear of horse-drawn carriages and avoid turning their joyous wedding day into a day of misery for an abused horse.”

The couple handed out leaflets to guests and passersby, as Gothamist notes, and drove off in a 1936 Ford Phaeton, which probably gets terrible gas mileage.
