Chicago Pol Claims Opponent Is Gay Pedophile, Then Doesn’t Win Election

By Kaitlin Madden

Last night’s mid-term primary election in Illinois saw Democrat Alexi Giannoulias win the (correction: *nomination for*) the U.S. Senate seat once held by Barack Obama. But the more interesting Senate story comes from the Republican victory by Mark Kirk, who easily won despite radio attack ads from opponent Andy Martin which repeatedly called Kirk “gay” and a “pedophile” (listen to the pedophile ad here).

Although much of Illinois believes Martin to be a couple votes short of a majority (if you know what we’re saying), it still begs the question&#151 who encouraged this idea? We know Martin didn’t produce these ads himself so he must have had some support. He claims to have an in-house advertising team, but who exactly does it consist of? We’d love to know.
