BK Goes into “Pimp My Restaurant” Mode

By Kiran Aditham

They say you can’t polish a turd but Burger King is giving it a go anyway. The fast-food chain announced today that it’s undergoing a massive aesthetic overhaul of its 12,000 locations worldwide in an effort to compete with what looks like TGI Fridays and its ilk. After all, nothing says trendy and opulent like potato skins and poppers.

Along with the red flame chandeliers, other “upscale” accoutrements include TV-screen menus and industrial-inspired corrugated metal and brick walls–all part of the chain’s new “20/20” design approach.

Sixty locations around the world have been remodeled thus far and BK hopes to pimp 75 more by the end of next year. The chain is also enhancing its $1 menu to keep pace with its fashion-backward rivals.
