BBDO New York launched a new spot for Visa starring New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and his brother, Dan Gronkowski.
The spot opens with Gronkowski saying, “I remember the day I put on that jersey: everything changed.” This is followed by a montage of Gronkowski being swarmed by fans, given a free pie, asked to take pictures and more. The spot concludes with a (not-too-surprising) twist followed by a greater revelation: the Gronkowski brothers sleep in bunk beds.
The connection to Visa Checkout doesn’t arrive until the conclusion, as Dan explains where he ordered his jersey. Perhaps we’re just disappointed that “The Big Gronkowski” did not include any reference to The Dude whatsoever, but we couldn’t help but find the spot a little underwhelming.
Fans of the Patriots (which we are most certainly not) may feel otherwise, however. Gronkowski-boosters will be glad to know that more work featuring the brothers will launch in the near future.
