AgencySpy, Advisors of Record

By Matt Van Hoven

I had a laugh when I read this e-mail, which came in the form of an anonymous tip. I guess someone thinks we’re the right people to ask about this sort of thing. Maybe it’s a rouse ruse (thanks Dave P) to see how much we know, but more likely it’s a well-wishing consultant whose gotten him/herself into something and isn’t sure how much to charge to get out.

“I’m trying to find out what the industry norm or range might be for an ongoing referral fee.. for recommending a client to an ad agency, and then working with that agency to develop, launch and roll-out a product line, including packaging, advertising and media billings…please call me at 212-***-****or e-mail at blablabla … the sooner the better!!! Thanks so much in advance for your time and quick turnaround!”

Maybe one of you many, smart folks could answer this for my new friend. But for future reference, we’re not here to give advice, just hell. Betta luck next time.

I am flattered that someone thought to ask us though.
