With the laws criminalizing same-sex love in India recently renewed amidst much controversy, the UN wanted to make a statement. So their global equality campaign, Free & Equal created a Bollywood-style music video in support of gay rights.
The music video stars Bollywood actress and Miss India winner Celina Jaitly in her singing debut, with choreography from Slumdog Millionaire choreographer Longie. With star power, a catchy song and a positive message of equality, the UN’s Free & Equal is hoping the video can turn some heads and maybe win some hearts and minds for the important cause of gay rights in India. In the video, a skeptical grandmother is persuaded by Jaitly’s message that “It’s a new look. It’s a new attitude. You might wonder where the old way of living has gone. But who is worried about who likes what, as long as in the world of love two people want to be with each other?” (Clearly, there’s a bit of roughness to the translation.) If only changing the mind of bigots was so easy… Check out the video above, and stick around for limited credits after the jump.
