For the past seven years, the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame Announces has honored those imaginary characters and catchy tag lines that are concocted for the sole purpose of convincing people to buy stuff. And, as happens every year during Advertising Week, two ” beloved icons” and two “fan favorite slogans” are selected to have their names listed among legends like the Geico Cavemen, the Geico Gecko and “If you see something, say something.”
So, let’s get down to it, shall we? Your winners in the beloved icon category are:
- Allstate’s “Mayhem” (Mayhem accepted the award by setting a school bus on fire.)
- Coca-Cola’s Polar Bears – (Due to their icy home falling victim to global warming, the bears could not be reached for comment and are presumed dead.)
Click here for this year’s other nominees (aka Jared from Subway, the Energizer bunny and the rest who got snubbed).
Your winners in the fan favorite slogan category are:
- “What Happens Here, Stays Here” from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau.
- “What’s In Your Wallet” from Capital One.
Here are this year’s losers other nominees. Also, the winner of the inaugural “Rookie of the Year” category goes to the Kia Hamsters! Well played, hamsters meant to connect with today’s hip-hop culture and in turn motivate those who were really into Paul’s Boutique to purchase a Soul in the near future. Well played.
Got an issue with how this turned out? Well, crybaby, consider voting next year so “Just Do It” can take its rightful place on the Advertising Walk of Fame. Until then, stop complaining.
