Cathy Pircsuk, the GM and divisional VP of WWNY-WNYF in Watertown, N.Y., says she’s retiring in June.

She started as a reporter in 1979. By the time she was named GM of the CBS and FOX affiliate in 1996, she had worked as news anchor, assignment editor, news director and station manager.

“Cathy has provided remarkable leadership,” said Lucy Brown, president of the station’s parent company, United Communications Corp. “She knows this business and she knows her community. UCC has been blessed to have such a progressive and stable manager.”

During Pircsuk’s career, the station moved from film to video tape to a tapeless environment while completing the transition from analog to high definition digital broadcasting. The final conversion of all local news and commercial production to digital platforms will be completed in 2015.

Pircsuk said, “For someone who started out in this business cutting film with a razor blade, local broadcast television has been a remarkable front seat to changing technology. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”

Her plans are for her and husband James Burr to remain Watertown residents.
