WTVT Apologizes for Showing Naked Bucs Player

By Andrew Gauthier

Viewers watching WTVT‘s postgame coverage of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday got a very intimate look at one of the team’s players.

The Fox O&O aired a locker room interview with the Bucs’s Donald Penn and, while the offensive tackle discussed a pivotal play at the end of the game, one of his teammates walked into the frame completely naked.  As Penn criticized the officiating in the fourth quarter, his teammate–visible only from the waist down–slowly put on a pair of boxer shorts, finally ending the accidental peep show.

At the end of WTVT’s 6 p.m. newscast on Sunday–a little less than two hours after the interview aired–sports anchor Chris Field said this: “Earlier this evening, during an interview on our Bucs postgame show, an errant shot from inside the locker room was broadcast.  We want to apologize for that.”

Footage of the interview made the internet rounds on Monday–popping up on YouTube and dozens of sports blogs.  Despite the extra play WTVT’s locker room shot has received, the station doesn’t plan on issuing any additional apologies.

In an email to the St. Petersburg Times, WTVT vice president and general manager John Hoffman said only, “We issued the following apology during last night’s 6 p.m. newscast: ‘Earlier in the Bucs’ post game there was an inadvertent shot and we apologize for that.’”

NSFW video of the interview is still available on Deadspin.
