WTVQ Morning Anchor Leaving Station for Something ‘Healthier’

By Kevin Eck

Lauren Gawthrop, morning anchor for Lexington, Ky. ABC affiliate WTVQ, says she’s leaving the station because she needs a break.

“After a decade in newsrooms and being on irregular schedules that whole time, my body, mind and spirit need a break,” Gawthrop wrote on Facebook. “It’s truly been an honor to help Central Kentucky start their day, and I was so lucky to be able to report in my ‘home away from home’ of Lexington. But it’s time to ‘sleep in’ a little, see some sunshine and do something that’s healthier for me now.”

Gawthrop started her career in radio and got her first TV job at WLWT in Cincinnati. She worked at KCAU in Sioux City, Iowa and also WDAY in Fargo, N.D. and joined WTVQ in 2011.
