WNBC Builds Up News Operations: ‘Everybody Wants To Be No. 1, That’s The Bottom Line Here’

The news operations at WNBC are showing new signs of life after a recent period of downsizing, the New York Daily News reports.

The Daily News points out a slew of recent changes for the NBC owned-and-operated station that demonstrate a new commitment to local news coverage. Among them: the station has launched two additional newscasts, plans to debut a new studio early next year and, this week, announced a partnership with a nonprofit news partner to boost local news coverage.

“Everybody wants to be No. 1, that’s the bottom line here,” news director Susan Sullivan said. “We’ve been very aggressive in terms of breaking news.”

WNBC also put four new news trucks into service this week, and with a helicopter-sharing contract with Fox O&O WNYW almost up, plans on having its own news helicopter to provide aerial coverage within six months.
