WMC Makes Fill-In Anchor Permanent

Kontji Anthony has been named co-anchor of Memphis NBC affiliate WMC evening newscasts. Anthony had been filling in at 5,6, and 10 p.m.

“Kontji Anthony is the perfect partner for our team of Joe Birch, Ron Childers, and Jarvis Greer,” said WMC vp and GM Tracey Rogers. “Kontji is an incredible journalist and cares about the people of the Mid-South as if they were her own family.”

“It’s surreal to be given the opportunity to live your dream in the town that you love,” Anthony told The Commercial Appeal. “It has been an absolute joy to work with the most seasoned news team in town. I am extremely humbled and cannot thank the leadership at WMC Action News 5 enough for believing in me.”

Before joining WMC as a reporter in 2005, she worked as a morning anchor for WNCT in Greenville, N.C. She’s also worked at KBAK in Bakersfield and KMAX in Sacramento, Calif. She started her career as an assignment desk assistant and field producer for WCBS in New York. Her first on-air job was at KTVO in Kirksville, Mo.
