WJLA Anchor Knighted for Community Work

By Kevin Eck

WJLA anchor Maureen Bunyan was decorated as a Knight of The Order of Orange-Nassau, a Dutch civic chivalric order, last week.

Bunyan is a native of Aruba which is still a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Washington Post reports the honor is bestowed upon “those who deserve recognition for exemplary contributions to society.” Bunyan was knighted at the home of Ambassador Rudolf Bekink of the Netherlands.

She doesn’t get a title, so the Washington, D.C, ABC affiliate’s news opens and lower thirds won’t need to be changed.
