Funeral services were held this afternoon for Jeffrey Zaslow, the best-selling author and husband of WJBK‘s Sherry Margolis.  Zaslow died in a car accident Friday morning in northern Michigan.

WJBK, which recently mourned the loss of general manager Jeff Murri, remembered Zaslow in a long segment during its 10 p.m. newscast on Friday (video above).

“There’s no question that he was one of the best writers in America,” anchor Huel Perkins said, fighting back tears.  “But more importantly than that he was one of the best human beings I’ve ever met in my life.”

Margolis, who has been with WJBK since 1984 and currently anchors the station’s 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. newscasts, has been off the air since Thursday.

On a memorial website for Zaslow, the family released a statement: “We are incredibly appreciative and in awe over the outpouring of love and condolences offered by so many around the world.  Your continued warm words are great comfort for all of us during this time.”

No word yet on when Margolis will return to work.
