WCBS Plans To Launch Digital Subchannel in NYC

WCBS, the CBS owned-and-operated station in New York City, has announced plans to launch a digital subchannel before the end of the year, according to the New York Daily News.

Called “CBS New York Plus,” the channel will combine resources from all of the CBS-owned properties in New York, which include WCBS and several radio stations.

“We have all of this content,” WCBS general manager Peter Dunn told the Daily News. “It really is a reflection of our CBS local media.”

This will be the first digital subchannel for a CBS O&O, although the network plans to eventually roll out similar channels in other markets where there are owned-and-operated stations. In addition to being another option for locally-produced information, it will also give WCBS an additional outlet in times of big breaking news.
