WABC’s Stacey Sager Speaks Out on Cancer Diagnosis

By Merrill Knox

WABC reporter Stacey Sager is sharing a personal story with viewers in hopes that her experience will inspire others who may be at risk.

The breast cancer survivor, who is 43, has a history of ovarian cancer in her family. Earlier this year, Sager underwent a genetic test to see if she could be faced with a similar diagnosis in the future.

“You don’t think lightening will strike twice, but in my case, it did,” she said on yesterday’s evening news (watch the video, above).

Since October is breast cancer awareness month, Sager, who underwent successful preventative surgery after her test results were positive, is sharing her story in hopes that she can persuade more women to undergo the genetic test. Her reports will continue airing throughout the weekend.

“If there’s a way to play the numbers game to your advantage I feel like, it’s not really a choice, you just do it,” she said
