VIDEO: Power Failure Leaves WBZ Newscast in the Dark

By Merrill Knox

A lightning strike briefly left WBZ‘s 5 p.m. newscast in the dark last night.

Todd Gutner, the chief meteorologist at the Boston CBS O&O, was in the middle of delivering his forecast when the studio went dark and his mic cut out. Gutner continued by the light of the radar screen until his audio returned several seconds later.

“We just took a potent lightning strike, probably right to the rooftop or to our transmitter,” he said. “I don’t know if you hear me at home. I don’t know if you see me at home. If you do either one, just keep listening. I’m going to keep doing this.”
