Through Fox Affiliation, WOFL Gets Exclusive with Casey Anthony’s Lawyers

Orlando stations scrambled yesterday to land interviews with the key players in the Casey Anthony trial — most of who remained quiet on the not-guilty verdict. Through their Fox affiliation, WOFL was able to air the biggest get of the day — an interview with Anthony defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason.

Fox News Channel anchor Geraldo Rivera interviewed Baez and Mason shortly after the not-guilty verdict was handed down in the Anthony case. The exclusive interview, which was more than seven minutes long, ran in its entirety on FNC shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday. The defense team barred all reporters — local and otherwise — from their post-verdict location, Terrace 390 in Orlando (see WKMG’s video of the defense team celebrating, shot through the window of the restaurant, here). Rivera was the only reporter invited inside.

WOFL aired a shorter clip of the interview about an hour later, during its 6 p.m. broadcast. They have the same minute-long clip available on their website.

“We always felt that this case was built on nothing,” Baez told Rivera. “The jury saw through all of the fantasy of forensics, and they saw through a lot of the lies that were presented before them.”
