South Bend’s WBND Brings in Anchor Krista Fogelsong as the Face of Brand-New Newscast

By Andrew Gauthier

Krista Fogelsong is leaving KNBN in Rapid City, SD to become the marquee anchor for WBND in South Bend, IN.

WBND is in the midst of building an original newscast from scratch and Fogelsong will be the face of it.  She has been with the KNBN for 2 1/2 years, where she has served as the NBC-affiliate’s main evening anchor.

WBND’s parent company, Weigel Broadcasting Co., plans to invest more than $2 million in building a news facility for the ABC-affiliate.  The station is in the process of hiring a news staff that will include over 30 people.

“It was a tough decision to make because it takes a lot of time and effort to produce a newscast from scratch,” Jeff Guy, WBND’s general manager, told the South Bend Tribune recently, “but we assessed it and decided it was worth doing.”

WBND currently produces an 11-minute 11 p.m. newscast in association with Milwaukee’s WDJT.  Fogelsong will begin anchoring this broadcast as the station prepares to launch its own newscast in the spring.
