Reporter Bud Gillett ‘Packing It In’ After 37 Years in Dallas

By Mark Joyella

One of the most senior reporters in Dallas will wrap up a nearly four-decade-long career on Friday. Bud Gillett announced on Twitter he would retire from CBS-owned KTVT Friday. “As I’m part of gen-Deadhead: it’s been a long strange road. 37 years in DFW but am packing it in. I retire Friday. Thanks, Texas. Love y’all.”

Longtime Dallas media writer Ed Bark describes Gillett as “a pavement-pounding street reporter who seemingly had no aspirations to anchor.”

Gillett worked at stations in Detroit, St. Louis and Indianapolis before arriving in Dallas, at Fox-owned KDFW. He moved across town to KTVT in 2001. In 2009, Gillett filed a lawsuit accusing the station of age discrimination–the suit was later dropped.
