Newspaper Editor Named News Director in Honolulu

Honolulu Advertiser Editor Mark Platte has been named news director for Hawaii News Now.

Platte will leave the Advertiser upon the close of the newspaper’s sale to Oahu Publications, which owns the rival Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Publisher Lee Webber told the newspaper’s staff on Friday.

The sale is scheduled to close on Sunday and will be effective at 12:01 a.m. Monday, according to Webber and officials with Gannett Co.

Platte will replace Chris Archer at Hawaii News Now, which was created last year by the merger of the news operations at KGMB, KHNL and KFVE, General Manager Rick Blangiardi said. More…
