Mark Murray Taking TEGNA Package, Leaving KVUE

By Kevin Eck

Add another veteran local TV type to the list of those taking TEGNA’s early retirement package. KVUE chief meteorologist Mark Murray is leaving the station after 26 years.

“I’ll have plenty of time to think about it,” Murray told Austin Statesman TV writer Gary Dinges about what he’ll do after KVUE. “Right now, though, I’m really looking forward to stepping back from broadcasting and donating all my ties to Goodwill and trading in my suits for obnoxious Hawaiian shirts.”

He started at the Austin ABC affiliate in 1990 and was named chief meteorologist three years later. His last day will be Thursday, April 21.

“In order to accelerate change and reinvest resources in new job positions, KVUE is offering eligible employees a voluntary retirement plan,” KVUE said in a written statement posted on austin360. “KVUE is a leader in the Austin community and this reinvestment will position us for even greater success as we continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of our consumers and advertisers.”

“There’s a wealth of wisdom and experience walking out the door at KVUE this spring,” said former KVUE and KEYE anchor Judy Maggio.
