Layoffs Of WFLD Technical Staff Effective Today

By Merrill Knox

Planned layoffs at WFLD go into effect today as the Chicago Fox O&O transitions station technical operations to a central hub located in Las Vegas.

The layoffs are part of a switch from engineering-based systems to IT-based systems at Fox O&Os that has been in the works for more than a year. Technical operations, such as distribution of programming and the insertion of commercials, will be based out of the central technical hub in Nevada, causing the elimination of jobs associated with the old system.

WFLD is the first station to transition to the new system. A Fox spokesperson confirmed to TVSpy the WFLD layoffs go into effect today, noting the number of technicians let go was reduced to seven from the planned 10.
