KXII Promotes Matt Griffin to News Director

By Andrew Gauthier

KXII has promoted Matt Griffin to news director.  Griffin previously served as the news assignments manager and web content supervisor for the Sherman-Ada CBS-affiliate.

“I’m extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead a top-notch newsroom in my hometown market,” said Griffin, a native of Denison, TX.  “KXII has a history of excellence in news, weather, and sports coverage. I intend to continue to deliver the quality content our viewers expect on the air and online.”

Griffin replaces Anthony Maisel, a veteran news director who left the station earlier this month to become the general manager of crosstown rival KTEN.

“Matt has been a valued member of our newsroom for more than five years and has excelled at every level,” KXII general manager Rick Dean said, announcing the promotion.  “As a longtime resident and active member of our community, Matt has a keen sense of the type of news stories our viewers want to watch.”

KXII currently airs five hours of local news programming every weekday, as well as two nightly weekend newscasts.

Griffin joined KXII in 2007, shortly after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin.
