There are only so many cities that get to host the Super Bowl and only one broadcast network out of four gets to carry the game. This year the Super Bowl is just across the Hudson from New York and it’s on FOX.
TVSpy spoke with WNYW‘s Duke Castiglione who is a local sports anchor lucky enough to have the stars align so that his network is broadcasting the game in his market.
“The Super Bowl is more than a football game. It’s an event,” said Castiglione. “You don’t keep the focus on one thing when it comes to the Super Bowl. You focus on everything.”
In addition to his day job reporting on the game, he’s learned how to make baked clams from celebrity chef Alex Guarnaschelli and sat down with Dan Lauria, the actor who played Vince Lombardi on Broadway and is best known for playing Kevin’s father on the “The Wonder Years.”

“I’m like a kid in a candy store,” Castiglione said.
“Good Day New York” shares its set with the FOX network on Super Bowl Boulevard which is at 46th and Broadway in Manhattan. “We had a rehearsal at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning,” added Castiglione. “I couldn’t wait to get down there. I mean it is a gorgeous set and look, I’m hanging out with football guys all week. I’m hanging out with celebrities. So I’m having the time of my life.”
His advice to other local sports guys in town for the game? “Be ready for anything. “The Super Bowl is about more than just football.”
“It’s beyond a dream come true,” Castiglione said. “This is why you get into it as a sports guy.”
