How Did Former Tucson Reporter’s Stations Cover Arrests?

By Kevin Eck

When two former Tucson reporters made headlines yesterday after being charged with child abuse, TVSpy was curious if their former stations would cover the story.

Som and Krystin Sorich Lisaius face three felony charges after their four-month-old child tested positive for cocaine in May.

Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD did a live shot from the courthouse and included footage of the two in court. Som Lisaius had worked at the station for more than 16 years and was the crime reporter and face of the station’s Tucson’s Most Wanted franchise.

The couple’s attorney Michael Piccarreta told the station “a mistake was made and [the couple] is going through the process to demonstrate to everybody that they’re fit parents and this incident will never be repeated.” The attorney also told KOLD he didn’t expect the two to see any prison time.

KOLD was quick to post the story on its website after the charges were read yesterday afternoon. The station also included photos of the Lisaius’ on a page dedicated to showing mugshots of local folks facing criminal charges.

Krystin Sorich Lisaius’ former station, ABC affiliate KGUN, put the story near the end of its first block. KGUN anchor Guy Atchley told viewers Som Lisaius is a former KOLD reporter and that Krystin worked for KGUN for a short time before reporting the story.

The Lisaius’ face charges of child abuse with death or serious physical injury likely, possession of a narcotic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. Their next court date is July 28.
