Former KSNV Anchor Sue Manteris Wants to Take Her Discrimination Lawsuit to a Jury

Attorneys for former KSNV anchor Sue Manteris are fighting efforts made by the station to settle her discrimination dispute through arbitration, saying they want the case to proceed and be heard by a jury.

Earlier this month, attorneys for KSNV filed a response to Manteris’s lawsuit — which claims that after 22 years with the station, her contract at the Las Vegas NBC affiliate was not renewed based on age, gender and racial discrimination. The response stated that Manteris’s employment contract stipulated any disputes had to be addressed through arbitration, which is private to the public.

Now, attorneys for Manteris have responded, according to Vegas Inc. They agree that her contract provides for arbitration, but say it only applies to claims that arise under state law. Manteris filed a federal lawsuit against KSNV.

“Despite affirmatively knowing that her claims are not contemplated in the arbitration provision, defendants first attempted to cajole Ms. Manteris into voluntarily relinquishing her rights and then, by the filing of the (arbitration) motion, they attempt to coerce Ms. Manteris into doing so,’’ Manteris’s attorneys, from the Flangas McMillan Law Group in Las Vegas, said in the filing.
