Dale Nicholson, former general manager of Little Rock, AR, ABC affiliate KATV has died.
The station announced his death on its facebook page, “We have some sad news to pass along…we’re saying goodbye to an old friend of KATV’s tonight. Our Chairman and former General Manager Dale Nicholson died at his home in Little Rock last night. He was 74.”
Nicholson retired from KATV after 34 years as GM in October 2009.
Mark Rose, who succeeded Nicholson as the station’s general manager told Arkansas Business he learned many lessons from Nicholson, “One which comes to mind first, he once told me, ‘Hire good people and stay out of their way … coach, support, and encourage. But allow people to lead or they will never become a leader.’
Nicholson began his broadcasting career in 1960 at KTVE in El Dorado, AR. He came to KATV in 1962 working as a booth announcer. He left briefly to form his own company before returning and eventually being named general manager in 1975.
