Kirsten Lindquist, a former anchor at Twin Cities NBC affiliate KARE, has died. Lindquist, who was 60, had pancreatic cancer.

The Pioneer Press reports Lindquist, who had been a California-based correspondent for CNN, joined KARE as 5 p.m. anchor in 1985. She left five years later for KSTP, where she worked until 1990:

Diana Pierce, who now co-anchors KARE-TV’s 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. broadcasts, worked with Lindquist during her stint at the station.

“She was fabulous to work with,” Pierce said. “I think she’s well-remembered in the Twin Cities.”

During one historic KARE-TV broadcast in July 1986, Lindquist and Paul Magers co-anchored live coverage of a tornado that touched down in the northwest metro for nearly half an hour.

“When I think of a memorable broadcast with her, it’s that moment,” Pierce said.
