FHRITP Hits Canada, Canadians Hit Back

By Kevin Eck

We’ve all grown tired to the types who yell “FHRITP” into a microphone during a reporter’s live shot.

KTTV reporter Gina Silva talked about it publicly in March, “I don’t know exactly what kind of man thinks it’s ok to do that to any woman,” wrote Silva. “Would they like it if was done to their sister, daughter, wife or mother?”

It seems Canadians are mobilizing in an effort to stop it before it spreads anywhere else.

Recently, CityNews reporter Shauna Hunt was out in front of a soccer/football match between Arsenal and Toronto FC, when a guy pulled up and whispered it loudly into the ear of one her interview subjects.

She then confronted his friends, who acted like it was no big deal. They may regret doing that. The Globe and Mail reports one of the guys just got fired by his employer.

CityNews also asked some of its reporters about how they deal with the FHRITP phenomenon. One reporter wanted to know, “What is it that makes them think this is OK?”

Here’s one of the videos that started it all. It’s fake by the way:
