Denver Reporter Stands in High Winds to Show It’s Windy

By Kevin Eck

KUSA reporter Noel Brennan and photographer Scott Wright wanted to check out the winds reportedly gusting up to 60 miles per hour at Rock Flats Tuesday morning, so they set up a live shot to show viewers what high winds look like.

“Our first live shot was at 6:30 a.m.,” said Brennan. “Outside our truck, I struggled to keep my balance and Scott had to hold down his camera and tripod to keep them from tipping over. The winds were incredibly strong, but the snow had yet to arrive.”

The Denver NBC affiliate reported gusts from 70 to 80 mph.

Our last live shot was the most exciting but possibly dangerous. The blowing wind and snow pummeled us, stinging our faces each time we faced the foothills. I nearly fell over several times as the gusts whipped me back and forth. It wasn’t until we returned to the station did we see the large, rectangular sign that blew across the intersection behind us. During the same live shot, another sign – one for Highway 73, came loose from a pole and blew away, out of sight.

Below is the video showing the street sign.
