Denver Company Tries to Block KMGH’s Records Request

Pinnacol Assurance, the state-chartered workers’ compensation insurance fund, is trying to prevent a Denver television station from getting records of a trip to the Pebble Beach golf resort.

Three members of the board tasked with overseeing the quasi-governmental agency went on the trip this month to the California golf resort and were followed by reporters with KMGH Channel 7. The TV station says its video shows the board members golfing on a course that costs nearly $500 per round while staying at a hotel with rooms starting at close to $700 per night.

Channel 7 asked for records of expenses related to the trip under the Colorado Open Records Act, but Pinnacol officials have gone to Denver District Court to prevent release of the documents. More…
