Candlelight Vigil for Slain WDBJ Journalists; RTDNA Establishes Memorial Fund

The Radio Television Digital News Association along with the National Association of Broadcasters and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences have launched a memorial fund to support the families of the victims in Wednesday’s murder of WDJB staffers Alison Parker and Adam Ward. $40,000 has already been pledged.

The fund will contribute to and accept donations from broadcasters through November 1. Go to the RTDNA’s website for more information.

Meanwhile, the community of Roanoke, Va., came together last night in memory of Ward and Parker. The group gathered in front of WDBJ for a candlelight vigil where songs and moments of silence honored the two journalists killed while doing their jobs.

“Too many communities across Virginia and across our nation are having to feel the same kind of pain and loss and it has to stop,” said Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, who attended the event.
