Bill Felling Named Executive Director of News Services at CBS News

CBS News has promoted Bill Felling to executive director of news services. Felling will oversee newsgathering for CBS affiliates across the country.

Felling, who joined CBS News in 1992, was most recently the network’s national editor, a position he has held since 1995. Before joining CBS, he was the 11 p.m. anchor and primary political correspondent for WCAX, the CBS affiliate in Burlingham, Vt.

He will report to Kurt Davis, who was recently named vice president of news services.

BILL FELLING PROMOTED TO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, NEWS SERVICES FOR CBS NEWS

Bill Felling has been promoted to Executive Director, News Services for CBS News, it was announced today by CBS News Chairman and 60 MINUTES Executive Producer Jeff Fager and David Rhodes, President of CBS News. In his new role, Felling will direct day-to-day newsgathering for CBS affiliates and broadcasters worldwide reporting to Kurt Davis, Vice President of News Services.

Felling joined CBS News in 1982 and has held various positions during his tenure. Most recently, he served as CBS News’ National Editor since 1995, where he was a key figure in coordinating coverage for two Emmy Award-winning CBS News reports, including the September 11 attacks and the 1996 Olympic park bombing in Atlanta. He also managed day-to-day coverage of 1996 presidential campaigns for the hard news and special events broadcasts.

Previously, Felling was the Northeast Bureau Chief, where he was responsible for correspondents, producers and crews in the region. Before that, he served as Deputy National Editor/Northeast and Manager of Operations, Northeast Bureau. In 1983, Felling was the National Desk’s assignment editor and field producer. He joined CBS News as a producer for its newsfeed syndication service.

Prior to CBS News, Felling was the 11:00 PM anchor and primary political correspondent at the CBS affiliate WCAX-TV in Burlington, Vermont. He began his broadcasting career as a desk assistant at CBS Network Radio in 1972 producing Spectrum radio broadcasts.

Felling graduated from Fordham University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He and his wife live in Somers, N.Y. They have two sons.
