Atlanta’s WGCL Cuts Newsroom Staff

By Kevin Eck

Trey Fabacher, vice president and general manager of Meredith’s Atlanta CBS affiliate WGCL, has confirmed with TVSpy, anchor JaQuitta Williams and meteorologist Cris Martinez are no longer with the station.

When asked about rumors of layoffs involving newsroom staff, Fabacher said, “This week, we reallocated a few positions that were more in line with new goals going forward. We have not reduced staff count.” But would not comment further.

Fabacher, who came to WGCL last September from WWJ in Detroit, brought on news director Lane Michaelsen from Cincinnati’s WCPO in March.

Williams anchored the station’s 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. news. According to his bio page, Martinez was the evening meteorologist.

Yesterday afternoon, Williams posted “MY LAST DAY…….” to twitter along with a picture from her instagram account saying in part, “Today was my last day at CBS ATLANTA NEWS. They’re moving in a different direction. I just wanted you all to know and hear it from me, and in case you wondered where I was if you turned on the station and didn’t see me.”

Williams joined WGCL in July 2010, coming from WSB in Atlanta. Before that she worked at KSHB in Kansas City.
