During WCPO‘s 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts on Tuesday evening, veteran anchor Clyde Gray tried to set the record about his controversial involvement with a recently launched marketing agency.
On February 25th, Gray debuted C. Gray & Associates with a list of clients that included a local casino. Bowing to pressure from members of the journalism community who predicted major conflict of interest issues, as well as his bosses at Scripps, Gray read a prepared statement to viewers last night (video above).
Gray said that he will no longer be involved with the agency besides a “very small, passive minority interest.”
“I have no regrets about helping friends get a business off the ground, but I do regret the impression this episode may have left with some in this audience,” he said.
The C. Gray & Associates website has been taken down since the announcement. The agency’s new name has yet to be announced.
