Woodruff Chronicles Senator’s Recovery

By Chris Ariens

ABC’s Bob Woodruff has been chronicling the recovery of Sen. Tim Johnson for a story that will air next week, the AP reports. The South Dakota Senator suffered a brain hemorrhage last December and hasn’t been seen publicly since.

Woodruff’s story, which will air Tuesday on World News with Charles Gibson and on Nightline, will include the first interviews the senator has done since undergoing brain surgery December 13, 2006. Johnson’s office tells the AP, ABC News followed the senator’s recovery in a series of interviews with Woodruff.

Woodruff has been spending much of his time reporting on stories related to brain injuries. Last night on Nightline, Woodruff reported on how some U.S. soldiers who’ve suffered TBI or traumatic brain injuries in Iraq are recovering more quickly than others.

Woodruff himself was severely injured in an IED attack in Iraq in January of 2006.
