Williams: “Let’s Do The Best Newscast Instead Of Doing The Best Commercials”

By Brian

Brian Williams is in Dallas today to visit KXAS-TV. (Don’t call it a “listening tour.”) Ed Bark‘s Dallas Morning News story includes some great quotes, like this one: “I don’t plan to change this newscast. We don’t need to. Let’s do the best newscast instead of doing the best commercials.”

After a quote like that, how can I resist pointing out that CBS is spending $13 million this fall? More:

> “I do like my news on the serious side. I’ve found in the post-Sept. 11 world, I don’t have room for much else. Everyone asks, ‘Why don’t we see more of your personality on the air?’ But you can’t do it these days. You can’t have much fun. I mean, look at our world!”

> “I could load up the Nightly News with crap and probably get a higher rating. We know how to do that, but we won’t.”
