The word “exclusive” popped up repeatedly in Katie Couric‘s first week as anchor of the CBS Evening News.
Mervin Block writes: “She used it most often in connection with her interview with President Bush. She began promoting it on her first night, Tuesday, Sept. 5 — the night before her ‘exclusive interview.’ How exclusive is exclusive? NBC’s Brian Williams had what he called an ‘exclusive conversation’ with President Bush eight days earlier, on Aug. 29. And on Sept. 7, Charlie Gibson had an interview with the President that ABC called ‘exclusive.'”
