Vieira, Bartiromo, Spelling Form Marketing Agency

AgencySpy writes about the announcement today that NBCU is forming a marketing agency made up of 26 women to offer “marketing and general business advice” to NBCU and its clients on “how to reach women.” Meredith Vieira, Maria Bartiromo and Tori Spelling are some of the names making up the group.

The panel of women is expected to meet several times a year, and “blog, write and appear on-air” for the company’s properties. NBCU president of Women & Lifestyle Networks, Lauren Zalaznick told AdAge, “Journalists and other members of the group will be able to recuse themselves as necessary to avoid conflicts.”

A group of media members, including many active journalists, advising clients on marketing and business decisions? Sounds a bit like Abrams Research to us.

When reached for comment today, Dan Abrams told TVNewser he didn’t know about the initiative, but that “it sure sounds like a smart idea.”
