By Chris Ariens

ABC News has named Victor Oquendo a correspondent in the Miami bureau, TVSpy reports. Oquendo’s not going far for his new gig, he’s currently an evening anchor at South Florida’s ABC affiliate WPLG.

“Victor knows Miami and the region intimately,” writes ABC News president James Goldston in a note to staff. Oquendo grew up in Coral Gables, and went to the University of Miami. He’s also got TV news in his blood. His mother, Teresa Rodriguez, is the co-anchor of Univision’s Sunday night newsmagazine Aqui y Ahora.

Oquendo joins ABC News in July.
