TV Newsers Add Hardware to Trophy Cases

The 2015 Writers Guild Awards were announced over the weekend and some prominent TV newsers are among the winners.

The TV News Script – Regularly Scheduled, Bulletin or Breaking Report award went to Dave Bloch, Lisa Ferri and Diane Sawyer for “Nelson Mandela: A Man Who Changed the World” on ABC’s “World News.”

The TV News Script – Analysis, Feature or Commentary prize went to the CBS News “60 Minutes” segment “Nowhere to Go,” written by Oriana Zill de Granados, Scott Pelley and Michael Rey.

PBS’s “Frontline” documentary “League of Denial: The NFL’s Concussion Crisis,” written by Michael Kirk and Mike Wiser won the award for Documentary Script – Other Than Current Events award. A different “Frontline” documentary, “United States of Secrets: The Program (Part One),” took home the award for Current Events.

Meanwhile, one of The Weather Channel’s first attempt at investigative journalism paid off. TWC’s digital and TV documentary, “The Real Death Valley,” won a Polk Award this week.
