The Ticker: (DNC Day 2 Edition): Nightline Find, Night One Ratings, Too Much Talking…

By Chris Ariens

> Nightline has gone into the way-back machine and dug up an un-aired Ted Koppel interview with Barack Obama. The interview occurred hours before Obama spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Nightline will air the interview tomorrow night.

> TVWeek’s Michelle Greppi reports preliminary ratings from last night for the big three nets are down. “ABC, CBS and NBC brought in 12.1 million viewers in the 10 p.m. hour, down one million from 2004.” NBC won the hour, while ABC had a 1.6M viewer tune-in at 10pmET.

> TVBarn’s Aaron Barnhart has a question: “Why do cable news channels talk over everything at the conventions?” “I don’t get it,” he writes “These channels spend millions of dollars schlepping people and resources to an event and then spend 95 percent of their time not airing it.”
