The New Look (And Sound) of The CBS Evening News

The CBS Evening News debuted a refreshed open and tease bumpers–and a brand new music package. “We hope that when you hear this music, you will know this is The CBS Evening News,” anchor Scott Pelley said in a package devoted to the new sound. “This year we decided it was time for a new beginning.”

While CBS’ evening newscast has decades of history, its signature music dates only to the 1980’s and Dan Rather. Updated at times since then, it had not been entirely re-imagined until last November, when CBS asked composer Joel Beckerman to create something new.

The result, the work of a 30-piece live orchestra, was unveiled Tuesday night.
