The Evening Ticker: CBS in Syria; New Hires at Bloomberg, Fusion

By Mark Joyella

  • CBS News correspondent Holly Williams reports tonight from inside Syria, where she speaks with a teenager who says he was forced to fight alongside ISIS. The report, broadcast on “The CBS Evening News” is a rare example of American journalists doing on-the-ground reporting inside the country. Williams spoke with 15-year-old Kareem Mufleh in the basement of a prison in northern Syria, where men accused of being ISIS terrorists are being held by a Kurdish group fighting against the Islamic extremists. “They captured my village and gave me a choice-either join ISIS or be beheaded,” Mufleh told Williams in Arabic.

  • Bloomberg has named Joe Weisenthal managing editor of Bloomberg.com’s markets and finance coverage. Weisenthal will lead coverage of markets and finance coverage across Bloomberg’s digital brands. Weisenthal, who joins from Business Insider, also will host a daily markets show on Bloomberg Television. He starts November 10 and will be based in New York.
