State of the Union Coverage: NBC News

NBC’s coverage of President Obama’s 2013 State of the Union Address will begin at 8:45 PM Tuesday with an online web show at NBCNews.com, with network coverage kicking in at 9 Pm ET.

“NBC Nightly News” and “Rock Center” anchor Brian Williams will anchor the show, joined by David Gregory, Savannah Guthrie, Andrea Mitchell, Chuck Todd and Kelly O’Donnell in the House chamber.

The network is planning full live coverage of the address and the Republican response, which will be delivered by Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. After Rubio’s comments, Williams will interview Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA). There will also be active coverage on social media.

FEBRUARY 8, 2013 — NBC News will provide complete coverage and analysis of President Obama’s State of the Union address to Congress on February 12, 2013.

The coverage will kick off at 8:45pm ET (5:45pm PT) with a web-exclusive pre-show streaming live on NBCNews.com. The on-air broadcast will begin at 9:00pm ET (6:00pm PT) across the NBC television network, and will live stream on NBCNews.com and the NBC Politics iPad app.

The online pre-show and full broadcast will be anchored live from Washington, DC by “NBC Nightly News” and “Rock Center” anchor and managing editor Brian Williams, joined by “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory, “TODAY” co-host Savannah Guthrie, NBC News political director and chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd, and chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell, as well as Capitol Hill correspondent Kelly O’Donnell inside the House chamber.

Following the Republican response from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Williams will get further reaction from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), joining from Capitol Hill, and Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-LA), joining from the Governor’s mansion in Baton Rouge.

On Twitter, @NBCNews will live-tweet the address and the NBC News political team will post in real-time to social media using the hashtag #NBCPolitics. The network will make use of an on-air Twicker powered by Mass Relevance to curate the best social reporting from the network’s journalists and notable voices.

NBC News will also create a unique second screen experience on the Zeebox platform, offering live polling, a special look behind-the-scenes, and opportunity to interact with the team. Zeebox users will have a curated view of all real-time social media and can share images and quotes from the event across Facebook, Twitter and more.

The full broadcast will be offered to all NBC News Radio stations as a live simulcast. For those stations not taking the simulcast, NBC News Radio will provide regular hourlies, including reports from Washington correspondent Bob Costantini on Capitol Hill.

The network will also use Spanish-language closed captioning to provide simultaneous translation of Tuesday’s State of the Union coverage. Beginning at 9pm ET (6pm PT), viewers can access the translations through CC3 on their television remote.
