In between anchoring shows from Kiev, Fox News’ Shepard Smith flew last night to Crimea, which has been closely watched as military activities have escalated following the ouster of Ukraine’s president.
For a report during the 3pmET hour today, Smith said “everything seemed pretty normal” in Crimea — at first. At the airport, Smith noticed a brand-new Russian flag taped to the fence post. “The changes are subtle, they are not in any way oppressive,” Smith said. “But they’re here.” (Watch video of Smith’s report from Crimea here.)
CNN’s 3pmET hour also originated from Ukraine today, with Anderson Cooper anchoring from Kiev. “We broadcast from a lot of different places around the world. This is really one of the most extraordinary spots I’ve ever been to to broadcast a program,” Cooper said on CNN this week.
For a report on “AC360” last night, Cooper showed viewers scenes from the streets in Kiev, calling the city “a shrine to the dead and a symbol to the living” (video is after the jump).
Cooper and Smith are among several journalists reporting from the region this week.
