Viewers will be seeing a lot more of what Robin Roberts has to offer as she launches her own production company called Rock’n Robin Productions.

“I’m blessed to be able to do even more of what I love to do and now reach an even broader audience with programming that will inspire, inform and entertain people,” Roberts tells TVNewser about her new company.

Programming will feature a mix of documentaries and reality programming, along with live specials and full-length TV series. Longtime ABC News producer John Green is Roberts’ right-hand man at Rock’n Robin.

“We are actively looking to do stories about people who are thriving and people who are displaying unusual courage,” says Green, who will continue on as EP of ABC Newsmagazines. The production company will be separate from ABC News and will have its own offices in Midtown Manhattan. It will shop programming across the dial: from cable TV outlets to streaming services. But Roberts’ home team will get first dibs. “From our vantage point, ABC will be our first place that we go,” Green says.

“I’m so grateful to my ABC and GMA family for supporting the launch of the company,” Roberts adds.

Rock’n Robin’s first production debuts tomorrow. “In The Game with Robin Roberts,” airing on the espnW digital channel tomorrow at 8:30amET, spotlights defensive lineman Michael Sam, who was cut by the St. Louis Rams over the weekend. In May, Sam became the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team.

Roberts’ new venture means more opportunities for media job seekers. “One of the reasons why Robin feels so strongly about having the production company is she wants to provide jobs in a nurturing environment for talented people.” (TVNewser will be on the job tonight at the company’s launch party in New York City. We’ll have highlights tomorrow.)

As for Roberts, she intends to be as hands-on as her busy schedule allows. “I’m very excited to get involved in the business and development side of production, and will spend a lot of time working with the team on the creative.”
