Robin Roberts, Hospitalized for a Week with a Virus, Returns Home

By Chris Ariens

“Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts is back home after spending nearly a week in the hospital due to a virus.

“A latent virus, many of us have, was not responding to medication and was pulling down my numbers,” Roberts writes on Facebook. “Our immune systems usually take care of a virus like this…but mine is only 59 days old.”

Roberts underwent a bone marrow transplant in September. “Physically I felt fine but being back in the hospital took an emotional toll on me. The wonderful doctors, nurses and support staff lifted my spirits..it was comforting seeing them again.”

Roberts was told that a majority of bone marrow transplant patients are re-admitted for various reasons. “The virus is under control and my numbers are going back up,” she writes.

Roberts’s sister Sally Ann, an anchor at WWL in New Orleans and who is her donor, was in New York and interviewed Roberts Friday afternoon (pictured). Parts of that interview will air on “GMA” tomorrow.
